General Information

Idaho laws requiring licensure or registration exist to protect the public health by assuring the competence of licensed LPN, RN and APRN professionals practicing in the state.

The Board investigates an applicant’s background and qualifications before a permanent license is issued. The Board takes action when violations of the practice act can be proven.

Formal disciplinary actions include both Consent Orders or Stipulated Agreements (where both the Board and the respondent agree to the discipline and sign an “agreement”) and Board Final Orders (usually the result of an administrative hearing).  Sanctions imposed by the Board may take many forms, including orders for probation, education, suspension, fines, and license revocation.

Formal disciplinary action usually results when there is a provable pattern of unlawful practice. While formal discipline is a public record, isolated errors of practice may result in corrective efforts such as education, treatment, mentors, or limitations of practice. These actions may or may not be public information.

A complainant’s request for anonymity cannot be guaranteed, and such requests may limit the investigation process.
